Emergency concert to address knife crime in Leicester.
Five local community groups have gathered to host a free emergency peace concert
for all communities in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland to help address the
daunting problem of local knife crime and its causes.
.
The Peace In Our Streets emergency concert has been put together by the Leicester
Peace & Love Festival; Sensational Vibes Youth and Community
Development Group; Kala Arts CIC; The People’s Buddhi and AAA 4 Success and
aims to use music, performance and awareness raising presentations, to discourage
people from carrying illegal knives and encourage peaceful living.
The charity concert was devised by local music producer and entrepreneur, Sire of
the Leicester Peace & Love Festival after seeing one too many stories of knife crime
victims. “I can’t really truly describe the way this has all made me feel. I was so
profoundly affected, that I said enough is enough and I’ve got to try and do
something.” he said.
The Peace In Our Streets charity performance is scheduled to take place at Boxed,
Braunstone Gate, Leicester, LE3 5LH on Friday 20th October 2023 from 9.00pm
to 2.00am. Youth and community practitioner, Kamala Smyle-Wisdom of
Sensational Vibes Youth and Community Development Group stated, “There is
power in numbers. The importance of this event is the bringing together of
people who care, using music as a medium to deliver a powerful message and
an opportunity to build a network of people with a common goal to beat knife
crime in our communities”.
Multidisciplinary community artist, Sim Seema Mistry from Kala Arts CIC further
added, “Let’s show a united front/solidarity against knife crime and violence on
our streets. With music in our hearts, we are one”.
Cheryl Armatrading of AAA4 Success has been campaigning against knife crime for
many years in Leicester and sees this function as another step towards change and
hopes to see, “the community uniting for a cause, with one purpose in the face
of adversity, campaigning together against knife crime”. She said.
“Showcasing this event is important to highlight. Every life is precious and
beautiful. Using music, we are making a stand with a harmonious melody of
bringing about peace”. concluded Manjit Rai Founder, Director, Holistic Educator
of The People’s Buddhi.
